Using the database

The researchers may search for the inscriptions by benefactor’s name, type of building (such as mosque or fountain), or other keyword. It is also possible to refine the search via the advanced search feature, which allows researchers to limit their searches in several ways, e.g. by date range, city, poetry genre, etc.

Every “card” in the DOI corresponds to one inscription. Each card has a unique ID number. If you would like to cite text from the DOI, please make reference to this number. If a building contains more than one inscription, these are cross-referenced with each other.

The bulk of the DOI webpages are in Turkish, and at this time, the search engine accepts only Turkish words. Hence, an acquaintance with the basic vocabulary may open up a wealth of information for researchers.
